My wife and I spent another weekend in NYC which revolved around eating. Here is my brief report. Friday late lunch at Casa Mono. Very good but somewhat disappointing compared to our last visit. Excellent wine and Bar Jamon has fantastic churros. Late dinner at Hell's Kitchen which was excellent. The complimentary black bean dip and cornbread was a nice surprise. Fantastic guacomole and the entree's were also great. Saturday was lunch at the David Burke and Donatella grill at Bloomingdales. We were pleasantly surprised by the margherita pizza which had a nice crisp crust and a subtle basil oil taste in addition to fresh mozzarella. The desserts were wonderful and cheap. Dinner at Strip House which lived up to the raves I've read on this site. The bone in rib-eye is all exterior crunch and salt and delicous. The goose fat potatoes and the creamed corn with pancetta sides were out of this world. Afterwords we had gelati at Otto which was as good as usual but the wine bar was insane on saturday night. Sunday was light pastries at Pain Quotidien, lunch at Lombardis and a great dinner at Bellavitae. The fried meatballs, sliced steak with salsa verde, cheese plate and panna cotta were standouts. The cheese plate was served with a cherry, mustardy balsamic mixture that they sell to go. Again, fantastic. Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the service at the chef's bar was just right. We live close to Washington D.C and while there are some fine restaurants here, you new yorkers have no idea how lucky you are.
