My wife and I spent this past weekend in downtown Minneapolis with plans to see the Royals-Twins game Friday and 49'rs-Vikings on Sunday. Home teams came through beautifully and we had a load of fun attending both. My wife also dragged me to watch Crazy Rich Asians at the Mall of America which was actually not bad and with the reclining theater seats, quite comfortable.

Food wise, we ate well on this, our second visit. Our first dinner was a block away at Murray's Steakhouse. We sat at the bar and my wife ordered a salad and crab cakes and I had a steak burger. I thought of ordering a NY steak but the difference was a $49 steak ala carte versus $11 for the burger and fries. My burger was excellent, about one third pound of ground beef from the trimmings, medium rare, juicy and delicious. The fries were piping hot and paired beautifully with my draft IPA.

Lunch at the Mall was a return to Laredo Cantina. My wife had been eyeing the tableside guacamole, so we ordered that and shared a 3 beef enchilada plate with beans and rice. Everything was good and we enjoyed our meal here.

We also returned to Zelo Restaurant and had a fantastic dinner. Very nice atmosphere and great service. I had the Walleye Milanese over delicious mashed potatoes and my wife had the seafood pasta. Both dinners were excellent and Zelo is our favorite restaurant in the city. The spaghetti with meatballs there looked good too.

We had planned on having breakfast at Keys Cafe on Sunday morning before the game, but when we arrived before 9:00 am the line was out the door with a 20 minute wait to be seated. More than 3/4 of the diners were still waiting for their food so we figured we would be there easily an hour and a half to eat. So we went into the 8th Avenue Grill and had a serviceable breakfast, ok but nothing to write home about.

Our last meal was at Quang Restaurant, a very popular, crowded place. Prices were very reasonable with a wide choice of offerings. We started with the crispy egg rolls served piping hot with a nice meat filling. My wife had the wonton noodle soup and I had the pork chop plate with jasmine rice and veggies. We were very pleased and satisfied with our meal and can imagine how crowded it must be during cold weather when people are hungry for a bowl of steaming pho.

I'm already planning to convince my wife to make another sports and shopping weekend in a year or two.
