Made another trip to International Deli at Tampa and Victory in the Loehmans's shopping center. They had a large deli display of items that were not there the last time we shopped. Asked for the 'mushroom caviar' and had a blank look response - I asked whether Serge the chef was on the premises and indeed he came out with a tray of 'cutlets' and told us that he hadn't made the mushroom dish today but pointed out others, like shitake mushrooms with small potatoes which he assured us that was a Muscovite favorite. Bought (and ate this weekend) a terrific beet borsht with beets, tomatoes and potatoes; the above mushroom dish, a broccoli and smoked turkey salad (really tasty), stuffed cabbage, baba ganoush or the Russian version thereof, proclaimed by ChowPup to be excellent. There were at least six 'cutlets' on platters, some minced chicken, some chopped chicken, some minced pork etc but all of them prounced to be 'cutlets'. Partner bought another sticky danish number which was so rich she couldn't finish it. Also bought Tarragon Flavored soda (not tried yet).
Rest of weekend was enjoying $49 worth of groceries - including beets, limes 15 for $1, scallions, 5 for $1, you get the picture - all purchased from the Mercado in the Target Shopping Center in Montebello.
Also bought $2.99 coffee from Costa Rica and same price French Roast, from Big Logs. The Costa Rican blend, already ground is excellent - nice body and good aroma. I'm off to buy more
