We spent this past long weekend in DC. We thouroughly enjoyed your lovely city and wanted to report back on a few of the restaurants we visited:
Obelisk - We went there on Friday night. It was absolute perfection! The simple yet perfectly executed Italian food was stunning. Without a doubt the etheral gnochi was the best we have ever tasted, anywhere, including Italy. I don't knopw how they keep it from floating off the plate. Boths main were delicious, the cheese course amazing, and the deserts stunning. Yummmmm.
Bistro Bis - This was dinner Saturday night. Very nice space, with OK food, and mediocre service. The food seemed overly complicated (e.g. my escargot had: escargot, lardons, tomatoes, onions, two kinds of mushrooms, cream, herbs, and the vol-au-vont. Very nice tasting, but too much.) I'm in no rush to go back.
Mereskem (Meskerem?) - Very good Ethiopian meal. At least equal to, if not surpassing, our Ethiopian restaurants in Toronto.
Don't laugh, but we were blown away by the burgers at the Old Ebbett Grille. You folks should know how lucky you are to live in a city where rare burgers haven't been outlawed. You can't get a burger in a restaurant in Toronto that is cooked less than medium-well, BY LAW! I tell you, I'm willing to take whatever risk is associated with a rare burger, but I'm not given that option! Anyway, we went there twice, just to get a fix. Not only were the burgers done rare, but they were excellent quality.
Thanks, Washington, for a great weekend. We look forward to coming back!
