From time to time I drive from Long Island down to s/e PA, and will do so again soon. I'd like to find a place to stop for breakfast in Staten Island.
In the past I'd gone to PK's on Arthur Kill Rd, which was all-right, and when that closed had gone to Alor Cafe. I'd like some alternatives.
What I'm looking for:
-- not too far out of the way. I'm going along 278 from the Verrazano to the Goethals, though I can also head down 440 to the Outerbridge. I can't give a precise distance for what constitutes "out of the way," except that I don't simply mean it has to be within a few minutes of those highways. Basically, if YOU were making the trip, how far of a sidetrip would you make to have breakfast?
-- a sit-down plate. I'm not looking for grab-and-go.
-- a place that does savory dishes. I don't eat danishes or other pastries for breakfast (so no bakeries, however good) and my lack of a sweet tooth extends to not getting pancakes, waffles, or French toast. I like skillet scrambles, omelettes, frittatas, hashes, or the like. The more creative the better (i.e., it's probably not worth it if they just have a Western omelette and a spinach and feta omelette on the menu).
Breakfast hours, please; open no later than 9-9:30 AM.
