My wife and I are setting off on a three week driving trip around California/Nevada from next week. We're flying out from London to Las Vegas on the 27th, spending three days there (a conference I have to attend) and then we have a car and a flight back from San Fransisco on the 17th August.
Our rough plan is Las Vegas - Grand Canyon - Death Valley - Yosemite - Lake Tahoe (4 days, which are booked) - somewhere north of San Francisco on the coast (advice readily accepted) - San Francisco (last three days, hotel booked).
At the moment we have one reservation, at Chez Panisse in Berkeley for lunch just before we fly out. I kinda feel it would be rude not to go there while we are in CA...
What we're looking for are restaurants with local produce (my wife has never been to the west coast before), really excellent local restaurants (especially for central American and Asian cuisines but good is the priority) and maybe a couple of places where the food is stunning where we can splash out. We don't mind about decor or service, as the food is the most important thing....
We'll be trying to buy food in farmers markets etc to prepare in hotel rooms a few nights so we can save money to enjoy ourselves on the nights when we go out.
Any help really would be hugely appreciated.
