We had a 3 nite visit to NYC. Saw Avenue Q and Wicked and ate a bunch of food.
Here's our "revue".
We had our big dinner at Daniel. The food was good (not transcendent) but the service was amazing. We had a Captain (John Winterther) who realized we were out of towners on a BIG nite out. He orchestrated our dinner, comped a middle course and helped us figure out a tipping Scheme. For us folks from Asheville, NC the whole Captain, waiter, sommelier deal is intimidating. About $460 for 2 with wine.
Next morning, Big Wong King for Congee and roast duck. Lunch, adequate sushi at Westside Sushi.
Dinner before theater - salad bar at Food Emporium- After theater --Marseille -- my wife had a Duck Confit that was the best single dish on the trip. (second best, beef cheek ravioli at Daniel, third, Congee) Me -- steak frites.
Dinner next day -- Becco -- love the $25 wine list. Mildly rude service, good pasta, better zuppa de pesce.
Shopped the next day for comestibles to bring home.
Zabars -- been there, done that.
Citarella -- Who pays these prices?
Fairway Market -- heaven in a heap. We bought loads of stuff.
Just wanted to give you a citizen's eye view of food in your fair city.
