Wedgewood stove

I'm posting this inquiry here on the theory that those who like to eat, also like to cook.

I just bought a 30's house with a vintage Wedgewood stove. There are 2 little switches on either end of the panel of dials that control the burners, oven and heater. This model is one that has one oven and a heater, which my inspector says is not safe to use. Up top there are 4 burners and in between some sort of warmer.

Anyone know what those 2 little switches do?
