Wave Thai 31st Street in Astoria

New (a couple of weeks old?) Thai restaurant on 31st Street in Astoria, between Ditmars and 21st Ave. Near Blockbuster/Mandees/The Library. Went there for dinner last night.
There was a good number of people there, mostly late 20 and early 30somethings who looked like they just got out of work. Nice vibe. Not too loud. The room is very nice, a big change from most of the other restaurants in the area. The water fountain/statue/pool in the very front was beautiful.
The service was good, but there's some room for improvement. Example: one person handed us our menus and then 30 seconds later another came up and asked us what we wanted. I hadn't even opened the menu up yet.
As for the food, it was solid. We shared two apps: summer rolls and calamari. The summer rolls were good, nothing spectacular or different, standard summer roll fare. The calamari was the best I'd had in a very long time. Not at all greasy. The right amount of batter. The calamari themselves were perfect. Not at all rubbery. Dipping sauce was basically a sweet and sour with some kick to it. I had the Drunken Chicken for an entree. Crunchy veggies, tender chicken, prefectly spcy sauce. Jasmine rice on the side. Portion big enough that I had enough left overfor a decent size doggie bag. My bf had the Pad Thai. He enjoyed it very much. Again, a good portion size. I tried some and it was far tastier than any Pad Thai I remember having...and I don't really like Pad Thai.
All in all, I'll be going back. It's in my neigborhood, it's a nice place and I enjoyed the food. I am by no means a Thai expert, but I think it's worth checking out. FYI-They don't accept credit cards yet.
