I just wanted to post my thoughts on my experience at the water grill the other night. 4 of us went in for dinner not knowing that the Executive chef had left. We were expecting to have tasting menus and were greatly dissapointed to find out that they were not doing them these days. While we were looking over the menu to figure out what to eat the sommelier came over and introduced himself. Now we were worried, a new sommelier? no Michael Cimarusti? What is going on around here. After we explained to Robby that we were dissapointed that there was no tasting menu he said he had a great solution he used himself. He walked us through the menu and we discussed what we wanted and he took over. We ended up having 3 courses with two items on the plate at one time. My favorite was the fois gras done two ways, seared and cold (the seared is not on the menu). He also recommended 3 half bottles of wine which went great with the food (the napa sangiovese was a great choice).
All in all we had a great time. The food was great, the service was great and it was really nice to be in the hands of someone who obviously loves food and wine. If you go in for dinner make sure you talk to him about your choices. I sure am glad we did.
