Spent a week traveling through Washington wine country. Had to eat to of course! Here are the restaurants we tried.
151 E. Jewitt Blvd, White Salmon, WA
Landed here from our drive out from Portland for a quick lunch before we started wine tasting in the gorge. Ordered the olives, beer cheese soup and the Cuban sandwich (and a few beers, or course!) Nice venue, good friendly service, Large portion of olives at a fair price. The beer cheese soup was excellent. Really enjoyed that. The Cuban was not really traditional, but tasty just the same. Good value overall.
Cowiche Canyon Kitchen and Icehouse
202 E Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98901-2628
Came for dinner. Nice open and modern space. Our waitress was busy so someone else noticed that and filled in for her, that was nice. Service was quick and efficient. Ordered the Caesar salad and artichoke hearts to start, then the French Dip and the Rib eye cap steak for mains.
The artichokes were awesome, amazing, outstanding. The Caesar was very good as well. The ginger infused dressing was interesting, in a good way. Lots of Parmesan cheese. I'd ordered it without croutons, but it came with them anyway. The waiter was very apologetic about that. Fortunately they were easy to pick out.
The French dip was awesome. The Rib Eye Cap steak was really my only complaint because it was very small. Only 3 oz of meat or so for $33.00. That seems very overpriced / under-portioned. Nice beer and wine list.

We've heard that under the old owner things were kind of iffy. Well, the new owner seems to have turned all that around and has improved the place a bunch! We came in for dinner, ordered a bunch of appetizers and a bottle of wine. Received great help selecting the wine from the small but interesting wine list. The appetizer portions were huge, prices reasonable and all tasted great. Fun stop in a great atmosphere with friendly service. Recommend.
Second Street Grill
28 N 2nd St, Yakima, WA 98901-2612
Stopped in for lunch because a winery website listed this restaurant as one of their favorite in town. Nice facility, friendly staff, very fast and efficient service. Tasty beer, good food too! Recommend.
Creekside West Bar & Grille
4000 West Creekside Loop, Yakima, WA 98908
Started the day here for an early lunch before wine tasting. Large, nice facility, and friendly staff, very fast and efficient service. Out in the 'burbs, which got us out of the downtown area. Tasty beer, good food too! Recommend.
Fiction at the Bookwalter Winery
894 Tulip Ln, Richland, WA 99352-8588
Like to try winery restaurants when we are in wine country, so stopped in here. There aren’t a lot of fine dining options in the tri-city area. Wine list only has their wines, which is to be expected, but might be a problem if you don't like their wines. Only 3 beers on tap on and only 3 beers in bottles. That is a bit small of a list for any restaurant in a craft brewing area like this area is. Service was good, venue was nice too.
Onion soup was tasty, but not traditional. Very peppery and beefy. Good but different. Wife ordered the charcuterie plate. First of all, it only had one kind of meat but 3 kinds of cheese. Charcuterie means meat, so it should have been called a cheese plate with a bit of meat. The meat was sausage which was kind of dry (no pate, proscuitto or salami!! Should have been a variety of meats!!). For what you got it was overpriced. I ordered the pork tenderloin, which was tasty but a tad overcooked. Also, I think the side (brussel sprouts) portion was a little too small, could have used more veggies. So in general, I think you are paying too much for what you are getting here and the quality is just so-so.
Horse Heaven Saloon
615 6th St, Prosser, WA 99350-1436
Loved the atmosphere, it's a fun place. Had a great Cubano and the pulled pork with beer cheese sandwiches. The fries are awesome, and the salad too. Great beer. Really enjoyed this meal!
Jeremy’s 1896 Public House
1232 Wine Country Rd, Prosser, WA 99350
Stopped in here after a morning of wine tasting. The burger and salads were great. The fries in cheese sauce and bacon bits were amazing. Nice selection of beer. Definitely worth stopping by. Dessert was just ok (stout cake), but that is my only complaint. Service was with a smile.
The Vine Restaurant
1072 Oasis Road, Touchet, WA 99360
Great place for dinner when here in wine country. Service was great, ambiance quite pleasant. Facility very attractive. Food was all very tasty. Only comment is that it might be a tad overpriced for the portions. A little hard to find in the dark, kinda out in the middle of nowhere west of Walla Walla. Even with the directions on the website and a sat-nav we drove by the driveway the first time. Nice list of local wines. Fantastic, maybe the best fine dining in the area.
725 E Dayton Ave, Dayton, WA 99328-1129
This is a strange review to write. First of all, it's all about the sauce. We had Filet with mushroom sauce and Filet with green peppercorn sauce and Lamb chops with a sauce all their own. All were perfectly cooked and the sauces that came with them were wonderful, absolutely fabulously delicious. Beyond that, what do I say...
Walk in the door and it looks like a diner. There is a counter with stools, green topped tables, no table cloths, pictures of celebrities on the walls. Looks like a diner. I think table cloths would go a long way towards improving the look here, adding a bit of class. The service was diner like as well. Don't expect dirty dishes, silverware and glasses to be whisked away and replaced like you would at some big city fancy place. But the staff was very friendly and helpful and happy to serve.
Interestingly, the appetizer list included salad and soup. We didn't order any of those and that was good, because our dinners included both soup and a salad, in addition to the appetizers we did order. Not sure what would have happened if we had ordered them as appetizers, it wasn't explained anywhere. The soup was clam chowder which was delicious and full of clams. The salad was something I could have made at home, nothing special. The dressings were homemade but still the salad wasn't exciting. The appetizers we ordered were baked brie, escargot and cheese in philo dough. All were very good, traditional. I mentioned the mains above. For dessert we got a chocolate coffee torte which was tasty.
In summary, the standouts were the mains. For them alone this place is worth going. And the smiling staff helps a lot too.
By the way, I’m told the Tomato & Bacon Bisque phenomenal but be warned, it is only available on Thursdays. Also, I think the corkage is too high, at $35 per bottle.
6 West Rose Street, Six West Rose, Walla Walla, WA 99362
Not your typical hotel restaurant. Room is attractive but I wouldn't call it romantic. Service was good, everybody really friendly. Really enjoyed the onion soup, the scallops, the pork shank and the short ribs. The ribeye was also good, but came medium when I ordered medium rare. The squash soup was a little sweet for our taste. Dessert (apple berry crisp) was very good. Love the inexpensive corkage fee of $15. Wife didn't like her glass of Prosecco and they waved the charge. That was nice of them.
5 S Colville St, Walla Walla, WA 99362-1919
Had a great lunch here. Fantastic sandwiches, had the pastrami and pulled pork. Tomato soup was nice. Counter service, bottled beer. Pastrami was the real winner.
Walla Walla Gourmet
12 E Main St, Walla Walla, WA 99362-1922
Went here for picnic supplies: 3 different salamis, 3 different cheeses, bread and olives. It was all wonderful! Highly recommend this deli.
Sweet Basil Pizza
5 S 1st Ave, Walla Walla, WA 99362-1903
Had three different pizzas by the slice and a whole 18 inch pizza too. All was delicious, absolutely fantastic pizza. Nice thin flavorful crust and good toppings to choose from. Good beer selection too!
