I'm new to cooking and am wondering how to properly clean meats, poultry and fish before cooking. My mother cleans chickens by pouring salt on the inside and outside, rubbing, then rinsing. I think with other meats and fish she just rinses with water. I remember watching an emeril show a while back where he suggests cleaning the chicken with vinegar. My boyfriend doesn't wash any of it and I gave him crap for it.
I did a quick search online and found http://www.fsis.usda.gov/Fact_Sheets/... which doesn't recommend washing meats and poultry.
I'm curious what most people do. I was always taught to clean this stuff before cooking.
