Just a couple of minutes away from M40, Junction 15 (and found through http://www.5minutesaway.co.uk/ ) is this village pub. A bit disappointed that, it being Sunday lunchtime, only their Sunday Lunch menu was available rather than the wider carte. However, £14.50 bought me two courses - a couple of quid more would have bought a third.

A starter of duck confit & mango tian with soy & chilli dressing. Good portion of well cooked and well flavoured duck to which the mango provided a good counterpoint. Dressing however had no discernable soy or chilli and was just sweet.

Main was 4 good slices of roast pork loin, apple sauce, roast spuds, veg and and an unnecessary (IMO) Yorkshire pudding. Pretty much as traditional as you’d want to find and none to the bad for that.

Places like this are one of the “treats” that 5minutesaway chucks out now and again. But even when it’s only a Beefeater it’s better than the slop you’ll find at a motorway services.
