Based on several local comments regarding Warren Schwartz's now cooking at Warren's Blackboard on Vineland near the 101 Freeway, 3 friends and I went last night to try it out and see what the fuss was all about. Way more than fuss, with good food and drink being but two highlights.
Gorgeous night to sit on their rather extensive patio, we enjoyed pisco sours, ice tea, pinot noir and viognier for beverage starters for the 4 of us. All highly thought of.
We ate mostly appetizers, including poke, burrata, stuffed zucchini blossom, and a side dish of Brussels sprouts as appetizer.
Entrees included a "superb" salmon from the ice tea drinker, one sea bass entrée split by me and the pisco sour drinker, and the burger, deemed very good by the pinot drinker.
All in all, a perfect night, very good food, and priced at $165+ tip, deemed a very good value, and a place that all 4 of us would return, and sooner than later.
The hotel is still remodeling around the premises, and the valet area is still a bit under duress, but all things will be worked out soon we were told.
Highly recommended for those of us in the Valley who would rather stay there, especially on weeknights, and don't want to ever think of having to deal with the usual suspects that we have gotten more tired of than we need to discuss.
Warren was formerly with Saddle Peak Lodge, Westside Tavern and Whist at the Viceroy in Santa Monica.
