I wanted to try one of Mario's restaurants. Unfortunately it has to be Sat night. Could not get a res. at either Babbo or Lupa, but the reservationist at Lupa said "why don't you just walk in?" He said it could be minutes or hours, who knows? (Dec 7th...we will be trying to dine somewhere between 6-8)
Experienced hounds: what is your opinion on this risky strategy? While I'm at it I may try to walk in Babbo first and then walk down to Lupa if they laugh at me there. Are there any safety-restaurants in the area that you recommend? Do you think walking in is more succesful than calling at the last minute or asking the concierge to call? Is there a chance that the gentleman on the phone meant "walk in with a $50 in your hand"? And assuming I'm willing to pay to play, is $50 what it takes? Would $20 get you spat upon? (figuratively of course)
Thanks for the advice.
