ever wake up craving salvadoran food? IZALCO report

since my spouse if off in san fran this weekend i thought i might go out and do a little light roosevelt ave. chowxpedition. i must have been dreaming pupusas because i was craving them when i woke up today so off i went to IZALCO. its at 64th ave. on the block in front of SHRIPRAPHI (which eee gads! i walked past today w/o stopping in).

i got the minimum order of three pupusas- two meat and one cheese. very warm and filling with the cheese being the clear winner by far. the little chiccaron meat in the other two was tastless & pointless to me. there is a little bowl of bland red sauce to slather on (the meat pupusas only, the cheese is perfect as is) and another bowl of some pickled cabbage that was fine. craving sated.

i also got the salpicon with tortillas appetizer. basically a meat salad, its a nice mix of chilled beef mixed with green onion and herbs over shredded lettuce and tomato slices. very delicious. comes with warm tortillas that made a great accompaniment to the dish. i had horchata and water to drink. cost was $15 w/ tip. fyi-i think they do not allow alcohol per a sign on the door. one question i have is why at just before noon was i the only one in there? how sad. very nice people and a nice place they need more business.

afterward i walked around, finally had a beer at DONOVAN'S, got some irish soda bread and a jar of irish lemon curd for the road for a sick irish friend of mine. also found wrayb's mysterious sweet/salty nori seaweed treat that melts in your mouth at the korean grocery HAN AH REUM in woodside.

so it was a nice day to hound around, but isn't every?
