WOW!!!!!!!!! Anyone planning a Maui vacation especially in the Wailea area call ahead and DEFINATELY go to SPAGO and
SARENTO'S On The BEACH!!!!!!!!!!!!
We made our way through most of the entire Spago menu with 4 people, we almost needed to be wheeled out of there.
The atmosphere is just completely unbelievable and so very
comfortable, chairs that feel good on the lumbar vertabrae, lighting ambient but still affords easy menu reading. We were not there in time for sunset but it must just be awesome. The
service was staggering the their thoughtfulness and attention to detail. I am a stickler for eating local farm produce and other products ( ASK!!!!!!! and if it is not from Hawaii ask WHY?) and Spago has a firm comittment to using all the bounty that we have to offerl
Sarento's on the Beach - again, we made our way through much of the menu the 4 of us. The calamari was like fried little pieces of velvet, melt in your mouth, the portobello napoleon had an incredible texture and the layers of flavor did just that they layered with sensations of taste as we devoured it. We had the best Maui Heirloom tomatoes grilled whole with just the slightest time in a marinade of balsamic and olive oil. Again, the comittment is there for local produce, the Corporate Chef is George Gomes, Jr. one of the original 12 Hawaii Regional Cuisine Chefs, a treasure of a man. We had the range of entrees from steak, fish, short ribs and gave all a triumphant rating. The setting is beautiful right on the ocean - although again we didn't make it until after dark but were seated at water's edge and the sound of the water coming up to the shore really created the ambience. The service again was flawless and attention to detail rules. The desserts were heavenly (I never eat dessert and like at Spago, I tasted all from the menu).
My weekend on Maui really was a destination just to eat at these two places and my goal was met, really, sometimes I go somewhere just to eat. Thank goodness for the fitness center after eating entire menus of two fabulous places!!!!! Like I said if you know you are going over there book in advance as both are really popular with more than enough reasons!!!!!! Aloha!
