Wai Wai - Beyond Ice Cream and Tripe

StriperGuy | Sep 13, 2004 12:13 PM

I read some time ago that Wai Wai had really excellent tripe... I am not a real tripe lover, but never even really thought of Wai Wai as a place for food. I always just got ice cream there.

That said, the other night I had a basic rice place with mixed meats.

Plate came with an ample plate of rice, some nice chinese mustard greens, and a combination of steamed chicken, braised duck, and savory pork ribs.

Everything was really quite excellent. The chicken a bit on the soggy chewy side, but I know this sounds funny, but soggy/chewy in a good way. I am sure it was supposed to be prepared that way.

The duck was remarkable, really delicious with a hint of 5 spices, but just tasty as heck.

The slow cooked pork ribs were also excellent. I practically licked the plate clean.

This whole delightful meal was $6.50.

I will be back to try other items on the menu.

A final aside, those seeking decor should probably avoid Wai Wai as the place, while clean and well run, shows the many years of wear that this restaurant has endured.
