I thought I should mention that a few weeks ago on the drive up from Fla., thanks to a "continental breakfast" at my favorite motel chain that was an insult to the term "continental breakfast," if that's possible, I broke down and ventured for breakfast at a Waffle House. (one of what I'm sure are several in Lumberton, NC)
The waffle was ok. The coffee adequate. The legendary scattered, smothered, and covered hash browns were a massive disappointment. Not only were the taters barely into the "cooked enough" range, but the scattering, smothering, and covering were perfunctory, desultory, and obligatory at best.
Once again a reminder that breakfast at the Waffle House is a dish best eaten well before sunrise.
