Waddling Over to the Penguin: Excellent Ice Cream on Lawrence

Kenny from Rogers Park | Apr 29, 2003 02:19 PM

I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of Chowhound approval for The Penguin, producers of Argentinean Artisanal Ice Cream, on the south side of Lawrence just east of California. I made my first visit to the Penguin this past Sunday, and was thoroughly impressed by the flavors I sampled--dulce de leche, strawberry cream, raspberry. The dulce de leche was somewhat mind blowing--a rich, toasted (?) carmel flavor and soft, smooth texture. Great combination of flavor and feel. The strawberry cream and raspberry were also very good--clearly fresh, very creamy and fruity.

The people who work at/own this place are also very friendly. They are happy to let you sample flavors before ordering, and seem glad to have your business. I will soon be living within walking distance of the Penguin and am looking forward to trying all of their flavors. Thanks, Chowhounds, for the lead on this wonderful place!
