I must admit, I was somewhat hesitant about trying this restaurant after reading a recent pro review that followed some decidedly negative ones!! However, I'm happy to report that four of us had a delicious lunch today as well as excellent service from Deidre.
Chips and salsa were excellent and plentiful--and both were replenished promptly after we had gotten low! We tried the chicken wraps as well as the rellenos, and both were excellent. The wraps were served with an incredible tortilla soup, and the rellenos were accompanied by an interesting take on Mexican rice, combining it with some seemingly slightly roasted corn which gave it a nice texture. The black beans were excellent as well. The relleno was nice and crusty rather than soggy, and the interior had a delicious chicken and melted cheese mixture. The only thing I would have omitted from the whole thing was the bacon as, since it's wrapped inside the relleno coating, it remains kind of limp and colorless and doesn't add anything to the overall flavor combinations which were very tasty and unlike any relleno I've ever had.
For dessert, we ordered the cajeta crepes only to be told that they were out of them. Some minutes later, however, when Deidre returned with the credit card slip, she informed us that the chef had rushed down the street to obtain whatever was lacking for the crepes and that not only would they be brought to us to share, there would be no charge!! They were excellent and beautifully presented with crisscrossed squiggles of chocolate and white chocolate accompanied by a pansy in the middle of the plate sitting on a bit of whipped cream.
Altogether a very pleasant experience--and very prompt, I might add, since that was a problem with a former poster. And I should no doubt also add that I have no connection to the restaurant!! It's located in the space formerly occupied by the Navajo Grill so there is a nice outdoor patio. Don't know if the Navajo is still around or not, but I enjoyed this lunch much more than the several I have had at the NG.
