Volare Italian Restaurant

bighound | Nov 23, 201901:44 PM

our dinner at Volare was very good from start to finish. seated promptly and pleasantly. a nice tasty selection of fresh bread was delivered quickly. chose to start with the bruschetta and it was very fresh and light. uniquely served with basil pesto on the bread which is new for us but really complimented the tomatoes well. could have eaten more of this. wife chose to enjoy a house salad and i chose the Griglia Mista, a grilled seafood salad with scallops, calamari, octopus, and shrimp. the seafood is grilled with balsamic and olive oil and while it was 90% calamari, it was all very delicious. for our mains, my wife chose her italian favorite, Fettucini Bolognese which she pronounced as good. i tried and thought the sauce was very good indeed. my seafood salad was quite large so i ordered a half portion of Fusilloni al Ragu di Vitello-corkscrew pasta with a sauce of veal, porcini mushrooms & peas and a little cream. great that half portions are available and it was the right size and delicious. Attentive but unobtrusive service throughout from a well trained, experienced staff. so nice. dessert of carrot cake met the same unfortunate fate as many we have found-served cold which deadens the flavors and dries out the cake. Still pretty good though. as our last dinner in Chicago we made a great choice. highly recommended.
