Last week I took a walk down Fillmore after an appointment and finally had a chance to try Tango Gelato for the first time lovely.
Also stopped by Vivande Porta Via and realized I hadnt darkened this door for quite a while. It had been a favorite haunt for me years ago. I picked up a half roast chicken with garlic and rosemary, $4.50, and one eggplant sandwich ($1.10 or $14/lb.). The chicken was not as garlicky as some, but the scent of the rosemary was far more floral and evocative instead of turpene-ish. The meat was juicy and not dried out better than most. Ive made the eggplant sandwich myself from the recipe in Carlo Middiones cookbook, and it was fun to see how his own kitchen executes it. I thought it was greasier than my own.
Vivande doesnt get much attention or detailed reporting on this board, either for take-out or eating in. Im wondering how folks feel about it these days?
