Hey Hounds, this is my first post, but I've read the board often when I'm visiting a new city. My wife and I will be staying at Inn Above Tide in Sausalito. We're really looking forward to it, and anytime we travel our number one objective is to eat great food. We're visiting from Nashville (sadly a culinary wasteland).
I generally don't have too much trouble aggregating reviews and opinions on Chowhound about a particular city's food scene, but SF is proving difficult. There are SO MANY RESTAURANTS! Hence the post. We want every meal to be great, but here's an overview of kind of what we're looking for: 1 great Dim Sum experience (from all the reading I've done, I think we're going to try Koi Palace even though it's a ways away). At least 1 expensive, tasting-menu type dinner (we tried to get into French Laundry, but couldn't, even trying to book almost 2 months in advance.) A great seafood experience (we're thinking Oyster Depot?). They only other restaurant we have plans to visit is The Slanted Door. That name has continued to pop up in my reading and I love good Vietnamese.
Other than that we don't really have any other ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any kind of food. We love authentic Mexican, Thai, Chinese. Not crazy about Italian, but really we're just looking for great and unique food experiences. We can probably only afford a couple big $150 a person dinners. We also want to devote a day to wine country. Suggestions on that would be great as well. We drink primarily red wine. We drink quite a bit of Syrah/Shiraz and Malbec. Thanks in advance!
