after hearing a friend recommend the spider roll at sushi bong, my s.o. and i had a craving for sushi again ..
this visit, we decided to go with a spicy tuna roll ($4.00) and a spider roll (~$9.50), along with the shrimp tempura again ..
we were underwhelmed by the spicy tuna -- not so much that it was bad, but compared to the substantial chunks of salmon in the spicy salmon roll, the tuna in this roll was maybe half the size .. at most other sushi roll restaurants, they would have chopped up the tuna as well, so by those standards this would have been good -- i guess the bar had been set rather high in this case ..
our eyes literally popped out at the sight of the spider roll .. this was the size of futomakis at other restaurants, loaded with soft-shelled crab, cucumber, avocado, tobiko, and tamago (sweet scrambled eggs) .. at 11 pieces, it was an absolute steal ..
i think the can't-lose items so far are the spicy salmon roll, the spider roll, and the bong sashimi combo .. that will probably run $24 + tax/tips, and will keep two people happily full ..
