My husband and I had a wonderful three days in San Francisco. Many, many thanks to you SF Chowhounds. I have been reading your Board for months!
Highlight: our dinner at Gary Danko. This was one of the best dinners ever, anywhere.
In addition to the exquisite food, the service was outstanding - friendly, comfortable, but with full attention to detail.
We each had four courses, and our dinner for two with a cocktail each and a half-bottle of wine came to $200.00 (not including tip). We felt this was a very fair price for such a superb experience.
It will be a long time before I forget the taste of those glazed oysters with caviar. Actually, every course was memorable.
We had our pre-concert dinner at the Hayes St. Grill, and it was just right for the occasion. Terrific chopped salad, excellent fish, and an indulgent hot fudge sundae. I'd go back.
Another highlight: lunch at the Hog Island Oyster Bar, with wonderful oysters and great clam chowder - accompanied by great bread from Acme Bakery. Loved the mint gelato at the place nearby. (Ferry Building)
Another lunch was salt and pepper crab at R & G Lounge - delicious. But their hot and sour soup isn't as good as Philly's Lee How Fook.
We also enjoyed a casual pre-concert meal at Vicolo. Good salad, good beer. The only disappointment - we are used to thin crust pizza, which we prefer. Next time we'll order the lasagna.
Thanks again for making this a delightful trip. We'll be back!
