Spent a little over a week in San Diego and generally had a very good food experience. Below is out list of restaurants in declining order from our top pick to lowest.

Gabardine - ate here twice, stayed with the small plates; very creative menu with items such as sword fish bacon with egg and asparagus, "Faux Gras" cod liver

Red Light District - lunch; Signature Bounty seafood tower (single was enough for two) and duck fat frites

Urban Solace - brunch: very surprised by the creative menu at this casual spot; enjoyed the beef cheek hash with eggs and the tuna chop chop with avocado

C Level (casual side of Island Prime on Harbor Island - ate here twice because of the excellent linquine with clams, also had fried artichoke, lettuce wrap with chicken. Also great harbor views

Prado (Balboa Park) - lunch; excellent Kobe burger cooked correctly and sea cake (crab, shrimp and fiah)

Cosmopolitan Restaurant (Old Town) - lunch; very good chicken enchilada and carnitas on corn cakes

Babcock and Story - lunch; excellent versionof N.E. chowder and also soft smoked salmon slider

Island Prime (Steakhouse side) - very good but not memorable steak; had the rib eye with garlic/rosemary sauce and a tuna stack. Apps of oysters rockefeller and clams casino were good. More great views of harbor

Bali Hai - lunch; excellent tuna burger with onion riings and tuna poke. Great harbor views

Blue Wave (Shelter Island) - this was our hotel restaurant that had pretty decent happy hour fare such as shrimp cocktail, ahi tuna, not a great hamburger

Jose's Mexican (La Jolla) -lunch: only fair carnitas and chicken enchiladas

Brigantine - found the happy hour oysters, shrimp ceviche and fish tacos OK but not worth a return visit
