We are coming to Manhattan for five days. Other than the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Station, maybe Katz's or 2nd Ave Deli, which are musts, I need your assistance. Both high and low end. I have the newest issue of The Art of Eating, which seems to have lots of good suggestions, but I'd appreciate any hints. All cuisines. Daniel? Les Halles? Kraft?
Of course, we will hit Zabar's and H&H for some goodies to bring back to Chicago.
And one particular question...
Years ago (we're talking mid-seventies) my favirite "gyros" place was Souvlaking in Times Square. The meat was actually made from layers of lamb/beef (?)and was extremely good. All of the places here in Chicago seem to use a loaf-like processed cone shaped substance, except for a few middle eastern places and maybe a few "al pastor" stands. Is there any real gyros left in NYC?
Thanks in advance,
