I recently got a small bottle of culinary violet extract as a gift. It smells amazing, but I cant find any recipes using it. I know I can always add it to whipped cream and things like that, but does anyone know of any violet recipes using the ingredient?
I would add a drop or two to my unscented liquid hand soap, or add some to my foot bath. Just because you can eat it doesn't mean you should.
That said, look up recipes calling for lavendar and consider subbing the violet {quick breads, mostly}.
I've only heard of violet vinegar, violet in tea, and violet in simple syrup for confections, cocktails, ice creams, and, as you mention, whipped cream or frosting. To me, that floral perfumey flavor would be too much in most things, but most flowery things meld well into brownies and other chocolatey stuff, so maybe a violet hot cocoa or truffles? Might pair well with cinnamon.
I’ve seen recipes for violet hard candies/lollipops. I love floral flavors so I’d be interested in trying it anywhere rose or lavender is used. You could also experiment with cocktails. A violet simple syrup sounds wonderful.
