I tasted a truly delicious wine tonight, which is also a real bargain in my opinion, and I wanted to alert my fellow DC 'hounds about it: 2001 La Gauphine Viognier Vin de Pays D'Oc. The nose about knocks you over with peaches, honey, melon and flowers--whose flavors are all present in a rich, substantial mouthfeel. there's enough acid to make it food-friendly-- this is a wine that can stand up to winter food. We had it with grilled salmon. I read about it in an L.A. Times review by S. Irene Virbila, the Times' restaurant critic, who is now writing wine reviews. Found it at Arrowine for $9.99--first place I looked. It should be availble locally, the importer is Kysela Pere et Fils of Winchester, VA.
