Vinnie's Fish House, Old Saybrook

A very good new restaurant off the beaten path a bit in Old Saybrook, Vinnie's Fish House.

I was first introduced to Vinnie's at the Flavors of Connecticut Dinner sponsored by the American Liver Foundation in New Haven last week.

My fiance and I made the ride out there last night and it was great. Chef Todd Curtis takes basic New England chow and makes slight innovations, adds a bit of italian influence, without a hint of pretension. Wines by the glass were all about $6 and only 1 bottle over $40 - and well thought out choices. Meal highlights included oysters (perfectly fresh) and cioppino (loaded with fish, shellfish and chewy bakala).

Good stuff.
