Vines in Hyatt Valencia

Last Friday was "parents night out" at our daycare center, which means they feed the kids pizza & movies while the parents have a free evening.
Living in Valencia, there is little to choose from but the usual chain restaurant suspects. We decided to check out the Vines restaurant in the Hyatt, and were glad we did!
Starters - Fois gras with brioche & midori melon gelee: a very generous (for $14!) piece of fois gras on plain brioche with microgreens & pomegranite seeds & pistacios sauce around the plate. The fois was nicely seared & perfectly seasoned. The gelee was too sweet and "artificial" tasting to me so I left it. The pomegranite seeds & pistacios were a much better match to me. Hubby had the butternut squash bisque with crab cake fritters - heavenly smooth bisque with the spicy crab cakes. Yum!
Entrees - I had seared scallops with fig compote served over corn grits (!) with a garlic cream sauce and more pomegranite seeds. What a great dish! I loved the texture of the creamy grits, perfectly seasoned, and the scallops just underdone the way they should be. I couldn't get enough of this sauce.
Hubby had jumbo shrimp with some kind of risotto (it just slipped my mind), it was fantastic - the shrimp were HUGE.
We were too full for dessert but they did have some nice looking offerings.
The wine list here is so-so for a place called "Vines", but we did end up with a very nice Oregon pinot noir. Next time we will call ahead for their corkage policy.
$118 plus tip, not bad for a hotel restaurant
Overall a nice change from the chain restaurant grind!
