Village Restaurant - Essex

Took a drive on Saturday up to Rockport - not many stores open, but it was a great day just to walk around outside and remind oneself that spring isn't too far off. On the way back, stopped off at one of my old time favorites favorites, the Village, for lunch. My wife (not being a big fried seafood fan) ordered the seafood mornay - scallops, haddock, and baby shrimp baked in a mild cheese sauce and for me - the usual - fried clam plate. All I can say is - WOW ! Clams were juicy, plump, and not overly fried. my wife's plate was outstanding as well - scallops were soft and tasted like butter. Plus, I always love the bread basket they serve when you sit down (especially the corn bread). What I love most about this place is that I don't think it has changed much since I first started going there as a kid in the 1980's - it's added a sun room, but that's about it. I know there are other places out there (I was tempted to stop at Essex Seafood after reading the glowing reviews on this board), but my heart belongs to the Village. The best $11.99 I will ever spend for lunch.
