village cafe at santana row - review-ish

daniel k | Dec 28, 200411:45 PM

Me and my friend started things off with crab cakes. A big crab cake is served on a thick piece of toast in a red sauce that might have been supposed to be spicy but was not. One mussel and some calarami was in the red sauce, I thought this dish was okay though my friend said the crab cake tasted a bit sour. The red sauce was a good fit

Next, my friend had the very appealing Thai Seabass that came with mashed potatoes and some carrots julienned. It looked so good on paper but the seabass was small and its texture not as silky as we are accustomed to. The side vegetables were okay

I had a Herb Ricotta Raviolinis and though I thought it'd come in small raviolis but I ended up with 2 large ones. They were good though, right texture and all. It was served with a tomato and cheese sauce that I liked a lot. I liked my dish more than I thought I would, my expectations were low from the lousy service. By the way I wasn't very hungry but felt really stuffed after these regular-sized dishes. I had a bit of my friend's seabass

Kinda average on the food, but nice atmostphere. I saw a lot of people order burgers that looked very gourmet (thick meat patty) so that may be the dish at the Village Cafe

Service was kind of bad, our waiter was really slow. Also I was peeved that they ran out of bread, it would have been good to eat with the sauce on the appetizer or my raviolinis.
