Vij's on Cambie: wassup ??

Question

I live in Cambie Village, a stone's throw away from their new flagship resto, and I don't even see regular construction activities nor progress on a daily if weekly basis. This has got to be one of the longest acquisition/development/construction projects in this city, bar none. News of Vij's relocating here were circulating at around the time of the Winter Olympics, believe it or not. I came across (again) this old Scout article yesterday by accident:

"Vikram Vij and his wife Meeru Dhalwala are pleased to announce that construction will begin on their new restaurant location at Cambie and 15th in Vancouver, on June 1st 2013. The restaurant will open within 12 months of work starting."


Anyone in the know about what's been causing the delays ? With Pied-a-Terre morphed to a more casual (?) Italian-American fare, Cambie Village is now without a fine dining destination.

I read in the closure notice for Big Trouble that one of their staff had "joined the team at the new and highly anticipated Vij's" so it looks like things are moving forward ... ?

Does a restaurant that doesn't take reservations make it as a fine dining destination? Not in my books.

I think its pretty close to opening. At night you can see that the inside looks like it is almost done. I think the outside is going to just have that sort of look to it with those mesh walls. I'm guessing it will look something like his restaurant in Surrey - My Shanti.

Checked out the new Vij's back on Dec 29. The food was absolutely spectacular. Easily the best meal I had in 2015. My only complaint is the lounge they have built (where you will wait an least an hour) has very little standing room. There are several tables which fill up quickly and then you have to press yourself up against the bar. Very strange design in my opinion. I'm sure they'll improve that situation over time. 

The best part is you can walk up a block to BierCraft and they'll call your cell when your table is ready. 

By the way, if anyone opens up a bar that is closer to Vij's than BierCraft, it would be a gold mine.
