Vietnamese in Madison Heights, MI

Thang Long, in a modest strip mall on John R just south of 12 Mile Rd. offers a mind-boggling array of Vietnamese and Thai food. I took my 16-year old son for lunch today and we enjoyed everything about it--solicitous service, incredibly generous portions, a roomy, comfortable dining room. I had Emperial pho --amazingly huge bowl of broth, nooodles, beef meatballs, sliced beef, tendon (I skipped the tripe) with a lovely platter of basil and bean sprouts to drop in. My son had shrimp w/ green/red peppers in spicy hoisin based sauce with a bowl of rice as big as your head --sweet, crunchy hot-succulent shrimp. Started with little cigars of crunchy egg rolls--wonderfully crisps with garlic/fish dipping sauce. And a cup of Hue spicy soup to start and share. Whole bill came to less than $20 with at least a quart of Pho left to take home. A bargain for such great tasting food.
