I rarely care about the restaurants being reviewed in the upper half of the NY Times dining section because it's usually some big scene restaurant, probably uptown, generally outrageously priced. The $25 and under column is always more intersting and useful.
But I always look because every so often you get the kind of review I love: a vicious trashing of one of the aforementioned scene spots. Asimov really takes it to Rouge on E 62nd St. today, giving it zero stars.
"With Mr. Ruggerio's training, it's hard to understand how he can pass off the mediocrity that emerges from his kitchen as cuisine, or even bargain cuisine. From flawed conceptions to faulty executions, Rouge manages to strike wrong notes in almost every key."
Anybody been to this place???
