Veselka is Still Unforgivably Terrible

yussdov | Jan 22, 201106:32 PM

I know that it's hardly a news flash, but I didn't know what to do with the profound sense of disgust after eating at Veselka other than flame this poor excuse for a restaurant. This really must be one of the worst restaurants in NYC. Everything they serve is just pathetically mediocre and that's quite an accomplishment, given how easy it is to prepare that kind of food. The quality of the ingredients they use is below atrocious, the preparation is careless, the taste is beyond bland. And it's always crowded. Are people just stupid? And don't talk to me of comfort food, either. The pierogis are cooked in dirty and burnt oil, the soups are tasteless, the salads use soggy vegetables, the mac and cheese was worse than packaged, the blintzes are soggy etc etc etc. And it's not even that cheap. And it's really noisy, to boot. If you want Eastern European fare, head to any place in Greenpoint for Polish food. Even the Odessa off Thompkins square is better than Veselka. Clearly, no one in the kitchen cares about the quality that's being sent to the tables. And I guess they don't need too, since the place is always packed.

If anyone is coming to NYC and has heard Veselka's recommended, THINK AGAIN! Or if you remember it being terrible years ago, DO NOT GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY! It's still as terrible as it always was. Food this bad should be against the law in NYC.
