Friends took us out to Re-Verse on the Plaza (800 Ward Pkwy) and it was pretty wonderful. Great service. Noisy. Smoking allowed but powerful ventilation system. Young-ish crowd. Not a place for intimate conversation, but stylish decor. Now for the food:
We had only small plates and salads. Great calamare and chorizo; great shrimp wrapped in Pancetta. Light fine crispy roasted potato slices. Spicy/sweet dry rub chicken wings. Catalan version of ceviche, really fresh and wonderful. Good Spanish "potato salad" very much like I ate in bars in southern Spain. Pork skewers -- a bit blander than the rest. Did NOT like the crab bisque; it was more of a chowder, not too delicate, and much too thickened. (They took it off the bill without us asking, after having asked for our opinions of everything.) Fresh mixed greens (which also appear in the center of many plates.) Great stuffed dates, almost like dessert. Hot pear bread pudding, light and not as dense and rich as some, and a perfect ending with a cup of cinnamon-scented decaf. We shared it all and left very satisfied. Not inexpensive (at least by midwestern standards) -- but well worth it. I plan to return for dessert and coffee or for a light lunch.
Curious what others think. We don't go out to this kind of place too often.
