Versailles Encino report

Three of us ate at Versailles on Ventura in Encino last night. It was very busy, I will admit, but I don't think there is any excuse for the lame service we got, and the food was pretty bad, too.

We waited at the bar. The bartender got drinks for my two male companions, but I didn't exist, apparently.

We got seated, had our drink order taken immediately, and about 10 minutes later got drinks. Fine. But my lemonade tasted like soap, so I ordered a sangria with our dinner order.

My dinner arrived first - a seafood combo of about 5 big shrimp and 5 scallops seething in oil on a tiny plate crowded with plantains and a spot of green salad, which were now also swimming in oil. Then a big side plate of plain rice. No beans.

Ten minutes later, my friend's chicken arrived. No beans. And we asked for my sangria.

Fifteen long minutes later, my boyfriend's picado criollo arrived, along with the beans for all of us and my sangria.

The scallops tasted like burning rubber, the picado was too salty to eat, and suddenly our waiter, who had been largely absent, found time twice in three minutes to ask "Everything ok here??"

By then I was so cranky I just couldn't wait to leave.

Confused, bad service and food thoughtlessly presented, badly seasoned and flavored...I won't go back.
