venturing into Indian cuisine

Inspired by the recently discussed Sweet Potato curry recipe I've decided to explore vegetarian Indian dishes. Made a trip to our local Penzeys for coriander, tumeric and cardamom pods and we're off! Do any of you have a recipe to share with a novice in this department? I've enjoyed vegetable biryani and would like to give that a try too. How about nan? Is it possible to make good stuff at home?

I'm sure there have been threads about this topic in the past but I wasn't tuned into it then and my search techniques on this site are not very successful so I appreciate any input at all. Thanks!
