We went to Meritage last night, and it was mostly wonderful. I really liked the concept of trying a few "small plates" to go with different kinds of wine. My husband had a perfectly dressed salad, and the tastiest, most tender filet mignon we have ever had. Also, the dark chocolate/espresso cake was fantastic.
The only "problem" was the venison with plum sauce --I thought it was mushy and a little too gamey. But, in fairness to the restaurant, maybe I just don't like venison. (I had it once years ago, and I don't remember what it tasted like then.) Anyway, I wanted to ask you chowhounds: Is venison always mushy and gamey? Has anyone had the venison at Meritage and, if so, what did you think?? I guess I'm trying to figure out whether the restaurant botched the venison, or if I simply don't like the stuff.
TIA for any input.
