Veggie Bistro- review

Wendy8869 | Sep 30, 2004 12:30 AM

Tonight I dined at Veggie Bistro in Uptown Whittier, just one of the many times I have visited this restaurant in the last few years. They have very friendly service and great vegetarian food, with influences from many countries. The food is inexpensive and they serve large portions. I have never been dissapointed by any dish that I've been served here. I must place a disclaimer and say that this restaurant does serve some dishes with fake beef, chicken, shrimp and salmon. I know that many people disagree over the attractiveness of fake meat and why a vegetarian would eat them (and I'd rather not get into that) but everything I have eaten at this place tasted wonderful and that is what I base my tastes on, regardless of what it looks like. I also must include in this disclaimer that I am not a vegetarian. I have been in the past but I am not so now, I just really like vegetarian food and really enjoy this restaurant (along with Happy Family in Rowland Heights:-) Tonight I had a great big bowl of their Eggplant Curry Soup. If you like curry this is one dish for you. I love it when I'm feeling a little under the weather. We also had some Fried Tofu with a delicious plum sauce. My hubby had the Vermicelli with vegetarian grilled "beef." One of my favorites. The seasoning on the veggie beef is perfect- it does not taste like beef and has a wonderful texture. They serve the vermicelli with lettuce, cucumber, sometimes mint, peanuts, veggie beef, and a lovely seasoned light vineger type of dressing. A couple of our other favorite dishes include their Sesame "Chicken"-a lovely fried nugget in a sesame cream sauce (one of our absolute favorites), Veggie "shrimp" with Napa Cabbage, Sweet and Sour Nuggets, Tofu Clay Pot, Curry Masala, and their Vegetarian Lasagna. Yes, they serve a few western entrees, such as lasagna, fettucini alfredo, and Spaghetti jambalaya alongside other Chinese, Thai and Greek dishes (they also serve hummus with pita bread and Thai hot & sour soup). I highly recommend vegetarians and nonvegetarians alike to visit this restaurant for their wonderful food.
