A Vegetarian at The Modern: dining or bar room?

Trembling Lion | Apr 28, 2005 03:11 AM

I'm planning a trip to the city and would like to visit The Modern at MOMA. My husband is a vegetarian (I'm not; I like offal and wild game and caviar/roe and stuff like that), and I wonder which room ("Bar Room at the Modern" or the more formal "The Modern" dining room) would be a better choice for us. I've compared the menus at but neither of them have that many (any? it's hard to tell) vegetarian things already on the menu. (A not that unusual situation; chefs are usually able to accomdate us.) I guess I'm wondering if anyone has insight about which would be more flexible, or if anyone has had any vegetarian dishes at either place.

Also, would the Bar Room be crowded and noisy if we went early Saturday evening (say, 5:30, when it opens)? Any comments/recommendations comparing the two restaurants beyond this? I just haven't been able to find that much info and would like to make an informed decision. Thanks!
