I've somehow volunteered to cook a vegetarian (not vegan, but no fish or meat stocks) Thanksgiving dinner for a few friends. I'm planning the meal around a wild mushroom lasagne, and wanted to brainstorm with all you smarties out there. What sorts of starters, sides and desserts would go well with my lasagne?
Since the lasagne will contain a fair amount of dairy and be quite starchy, I guess I'd want to have some lighter dishes for contrast's sake, but I definitely want the meal as a whole to feel feast-like and indulgent. Some of my ideas were a nice fresh salad, and some poached fruit...but that somehow seems so restrained to me.
What's a good counterpoint to starch, dairy, and vegetables? "MEAT!!!", screams the voice in my head. You see the fundamental problem I'm having? Thanks in advance for any ideas, or help in adjusting my point of view.
