I need a totally vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown, and I'd like to know which one people have had good experiences with. If it were up to me, I'd order off the vegetarian sections of many a non-veg Chinatown restaurant, as I have had great veggie dishes this way, but I've a friend coming into town who is vegan and she won't want to go thru the rigamarole of asking "does this have egg in it?" or "do you use oyster sauce in this dish" etc. So, I think one of the mock-meat places may be the way to go. I've noticed two of them on Mott St. One is The House of Vegetarian, and the other is Vegetarian Paradise 3. Which of these two is better, and is there yet a better choice than either? If anyone knows of a great place that is not mock-meat, but vegetable-based cuisine for its own sake, that would be great too.
