Vegas Trip Report-Fiamma, Burger Bar, Bradley Ogden, Prime

Just back yesterday from an amazing four night trip to Vegas, I could go on and on but this is a food board. I was with my wife, her sister, and sister's husband

Fiamma-WOW! IN-FREAKING-CREDIBLE! Even better than I expected! A very cool and relaxing dining room, the ambience is some of the best I have ever seen. Service was very attentive and professional, they were very cool about us splitting salads and appetizers, they'd bring them to us already split as we had asked. My wife and I split the mozzarella and tomato salad, the flavor just bursts in your mouth, strong herb flavor in the oil, it's just plain awesome, very light. The four of us split the spaghetti and kobe meatballs, easily the best pasta any of us had ever had, the meatballs were seasoned just right, perfect amount of salt and garlic and whatever else was in them. The tomato sauce had a little cream and was reminiscent of a Mario Batali recipie I had recently made, but mine was nothing like this. We each got out own entrees, I had the bone in ribeye in mushroom-wine sauce, it was the best steak I had ever had, a big suprise, as good as the steak at Delmonico. The sauce and the mushrooms goes so well with the steak, which was tender like filet mignon. My wife had the chicken, which I tried, done to perfection, crispy skin with glaze, tender throughout and flavored all the way through as well. They must have brined it in some fashion, the sage flavor is there in every bite. We were all too full for dessert...a flawless experience, we all would go back and probably will.

Monday we had lunch at Burger Bar-I had the angus beef with pepper bacon, american cheese and carmelized onions. What a great burger! Service was a bit slow, the skinny fries were a bit off from last time, I could tell our orders had probably been sitting for at least five minutes. A shame, skinny fries are the best when right out of the frier, but the burger was great.

I ended up going off on my own for a couple hours later that day, so I went to Bradley Ogden and had soup and dessert at the bar. The sweet corn and lobster soup is so good I could have had three bowls of it, it was an experience! A couple large chunks of perfectly done lobster meat, with very crunchy corn niblets, bacon, and little onion bits, it all complemented the whole dish, the tastes and textures were heavenly. I definitely have to have dinner at Ogden next trip. For dessert I had market watermelon-five little watermelon desserts on one plate that looked too artistic to eat. A little bit of sorbet with basil seeds, a parfait with watermelon jello and whipped cream, a tiny bowl that had a thimble sized pound cake with sorbet and watermelon flavored 'water', marinated watermelon sticks with lime parfait on top, and a watermelon popsicle. Perfect for a hot day, so many flavors and tastes that just relax you after a day of walking in the heat.

Wednesday we had dinner at Prime-steak Monday was topped! Wow, that steak was something else, the sauces were out of thos world, the steak had a little bit of char taste that I liked. I had the beef tartare/carpaccio for an appetizer, easily the best of it's kind I've ever had, how they got the beef so delicate is a mystery, but a good one! Truffle mashed potatoes were ok but not anywhere near as good as the rest of the meal. Green beans the same, good but not wow. We had dessert and coffee on the outdoor patio with the fountains right there-that was a perfect end to a great dining experience. Coffee was great, the dessert, warm molten choclate cake with ice cream was substandard. I was suprised, it was a mediocre dessert considering how everything else was. Not that it was bad, but no better than something you'd get at Chili's. I'd still give Delmonico the slight edge, cause everything you eat there is flawless, and while I liked the steak a little better, the accompaniments(sp)were definitely better at Delmonico. I'd highly recommend Prime-an appetizer and steak is all that's needed, portions are suprisingly large, especially with the sides, the truffle mashed potatoes could be shared by four people.
