Just returned from a long weekend trip to Vegas and thought I'd report on our food experiences, so here goes.

Thursday Night:

9INE Steakhouse at The Palms

The food was very good.
Had the iceberg wedge which was typical, the tatare beef and one tuna..seemed to be prepared way ahead of time and sat in the fridge, the stuffed mushrooms with crab were delicious, and the fried popcorn rock shrimp in giant popcorn box were fabulous served with red chili sauce.

Everyone except me got the ribeye and raved about it. Coming from NYC, I was impressed that a few at the table said this was the best steak they have ever had. I had the lamb chops in parmesean crust and red wine sauce. Other than the lamb being overdone it was good.

Truffle gnocchi was outrageous. More like a Roman gnocchi than the ususual small bits of gnocchi you usually get. These looked to be boiled, then pan roasted and then coated with truffle oil and herbs. The lobster mash was good. The one plus was the sauce the spuds were topped with...Lobster Bisque! The creamed spinach was good as well.

Too full for dessert, but got a complimentary molten chocolate cake for mom's b-day. It had freezer burn, but was presented beautifully.

Friday night:

Social House at TI

I was a little skeptical about this place after the comments on this board, but to my surprise it was an excellent meal!

Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalepeno. Absolutely amazing. A twist on the Nobu original was that the Jalepeno circle was tempura fried. Citrus roasted black good as Nobu's miso cod. Kobe beef gyoza were awesome. Perfect crisp on the outside and excellent flavor inside. Pork belly with japanese turnip puree. This was as good as any pork belly I've had at Momofuku in NY. Braised short ribs with artichoke puree. This had to be rationed carefully or else one of our diners would have ingested the entire plate.

Salmon/Avacado, Spicy Tuna and Softshell crab roll were good. Nothing fabulous....same as at Nobu.

We ordered the sampler which came with a little bit of everything....tapioca pancakes, mochi (sp?), ice cream sandwiches, gelato, sorbet, chocolate cake, etc. It was yummy.

All of their drinks were delicious. I highly recommend the tequila and watermelon cocktail. Amazing.

All in all Social House was better than any meal I have had at Nobu in NY and Vegas and also better than Okada.


Bartolotta at The Wynn

In order to get a table outside which is first come first serve even with a reservation, we had to wait close to an hour and a half, but it was well worth it. We decided on the Gran Tassting which was $155 a pop. Ouch, but again worth it. We chose our ouwn tasting that incuded 6 antipasti, 5 pastas, and two fish. We were full after the antipasti.

Octopus in lemon and olive oil. Unbelievable.
Vongole in tomato broth. We couldn't suck the suckers out of the shell fast enough.
Seared scallops with truffles. Amazing. The best scallop I have ever eaten.
Smoked rabbit wrapped in pancetta. OK
Langostine in garlic and oil. Again, to me just OK.

Beef ravioli with burnt butter and sage. Yum
Linguine with vongole. Good, but salty.
Seafood risotto. The best I've had.
Penne with lobster. My favorite. They could have given a bit more lobster though.

I forgot the names, but both were in the snapper family. One served in a tomoato, olive, caper sauce that was not salty at all. Really great flavors. The other fish was served with a basil oil and fresh chopped tomato and red onion. Another winner! So fresh tasting.

We were so full that we really couldn't enjoy them, but I had a taste of each..gelati, sorbetti, chocolate and banana molten cake with coconut sauce, olive oil and lemon cake, roasted pineapple carpaccio with basil gelato, vanilla semifreddo brulee with roasted fig sauce...the best dessert I have ever eaten, and I think there was one other that I can't recall.

Very memorable meals for sure!!!!

Additional Info:
We stayed at Bellagio and had great breakfasts and lunches at the Pool Cafe and Palio.
