Veal Kidneys?

bdaddy | Feb 8, 2008 12:07 PM

I live in NC, a fairly cosmopolitan area - plenty of universities and high-tech stuff around - but have not been able to find veal kidneys for several years (the one store went out of business - hello!). Checked out the web and got all the usual suspects - Lobel's, this and that specialty store; none of whom actually sell them - so am wondering if there are any places out there that do. Obviously, I don't need a freezer full, but I would buy 10-15 lbs (frozen), and pay for overnight shipping etc.I have a killer steak and kidney pie recipe that I would make several times a year, if I could, but everybody looks at me like an escaped mental patient when I ask about them! Even Whole Foods don't carry lamb kidneys down here, and those places that think they might be able to get them say they have to order a life-time's supply. Am beginning to see beef kidneys at a grocery chain that caters largely to Hispanics (and I've tried them, relatively successfully) but I'm still curious to know why nobody can get veal kidneys. What do they do with them? Dogfood? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
