Heard from a friend in the business that Zinc Brasserie, the highly anticipated French outpost at Hilltop, closed, as of Sunday. I had such high expectations for it -- finally, a place in HR where you could reliably find moules and frites, choucroute, steak frites, salade Lyonnaise -- all of the brasserie or bistro standards, so sadly lacking here. The involvement of Todd Jurich lasted about as long as the brasserie menu -- three months. They had the authentic zinc bar, but not much else. I had some of the worst escargot bourguignonne in my life there. I don't think they intended to abandon the French menu -- just that the tony Great Neck crowd didn't have any demand for those reliable standards.
This is NOT good news for the HR dining scene.
